TRAI Approves Official Caller ID: Real Names to Appear on Incoming Calls Soon

India is introducing its own official caller ID system, similar to Truecaller but built, verified, and managed by the government.

CNAP — Calling Name Presentation, A strategy put out by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has been approved by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India).Even if the number isn't stored in your contacts, this plan will enable the actual names of callers to show up on your phone screen.

What is CNAP?

Your phone will display the real name associated with the caller's mobile connection when they call (the name used in their KYC paperwork when obtaining the SIM).
