New Update Alert: Instagram & WhatsApp Might Listen to You — Here’s How

8th Pay Commission

Meta has announced that starting December 16, 2025, it will use your conversations with Meta AI across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger to personalise ads and content. This means both text and voice interactions with the AI will help shape the posts, reels, and ads you see. While Meta claims this will make recommendations more relevant to users’ interests, it also raises serious privacy concerns, as the AI will effectively “listen” to user conversations. However, users will still have access to Ad Preferences and feed control tools to manage their data and customize ad settings.

A major concern with this update is that Meta app users won’t be able to opt out of AI data collection, meaning Meta AI will continue accessing conversations by default. However, users can still manage what they see through Ad Preferences and feed controls, blocking or limiting specific ads. The only real way to avoid data collection is by not interacting with Meta AI altogether.

Starting October 7, 2025, Meta will begin notifying users about these changes via in-app alerts and emails, gradually rolling them out across regions. Users are advised to be cautious about the information they share, even in casual chats with the AI.
