CCTV cameras were previously installed in a few passenger coaches as part of an experiment by Indian Railways, and the outcome was favorableāit enhanced onboard safety and security.
The Railways have now chosen to equip every train coach with CCTV cameras as a result of this success. Enhancing passenger safety is the goal, particularly since criminal gangs or miscreants (troublemakers) occasionally prey on defenseless or uninformed travelers. Such instances should drastically decline with CCTV cameras monitoring the coaches.
The cameras won't be placed inside compartments or private seating areas to preserve passenger privacy. Rather, they will be positioned in areas where people often board, exit, and move, such as close to the coach doors.
