Asia Cup Uproar: India Rejects Asia Cup Honours Amid Ceremony Chaos

8th Pay Commission

Asia Cup 2025 ended on a tumultuous note as Team India rejected the Asia Cup Honours. Find out all you need to know about the chaotic post match ceremony.

The Ceremony Controversy

India's Asia Cup 2025 victory over Pakistan was tarnished by an unparalleled presentation disaster. Despite winning the final, the squad was not awarded an official trophy or medals. ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan's Interior Minister, reportedly departed the stage with the trophy, leaving Indian players unrecognised. Suryakumar Yadav's symbolic "air trophy" gesture highlighted the awkwardness and provoked much debate.

BCCI’s Stand

Devajit Saikia, the BCCI's acting secretary, issued a clear statement emphasising that the board refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi because of his political role. The gesture represented a tacit protest against Pakistan's alleged involvement in cross-border operations. Saikia stated that the board would formally address the issue at the ICC's November conference, citing a breach of procedure and respect.
