According to officials, the Central Board of Direct Taxes intends to require Aadhaar identification for new Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards starting on July 1.
According to a senior official who wished to remain anonymous, "the move for Aadhaar-based verification aligns with the digitalization drive and efforts to ensure accountability and compliance in tax filing."
Starting July 1, 2025, individuals applying for a new Permanent Account Number (PAN) will be required to furnish their Aadhaar number as per the new rule proposed by the government. This move aims to streamline identity verification and curb tax evasion by linking multiple PANs to a single Aadhaar.
